Yes, this is true. There's an infinite demand for good books, "good" is the key word.

Yep I definitely spend a lot of time in dustbin of Project Gutenburs, why back in my day and the day before that they... Grin.

& yep, always looking for the new great read as well. I do have a minor grumble about availability of new writes today; I'd like to see more indies independent of Amazon, .epub and or paper rather than Kindle or Amazon approved paper. I know its my personal thing, I'd really rather not deal with Amazon.

Having said that, living at the end of a very long supply line I do, not biting my nose to spite my face, often deal with them, -but at least scratching my nose to spite my, if there another choice, even if it cost a bit more than Amazon, I go for it instead.

I think more and more writers are going to work towards selling from their own websites. But, the problem with that, is that customers will have to go to a lot of different sites and check for new books. And while the authors may send out newsletters, those may not get read, or might get lost in SPAM.

People got tired of looking at lots of different websites a decade or so ago, which is why we saw the rise of Amazon, it was a conglomerate of books and gear and stuff all in one convenient place. Book stores did the same for browsing books, but once the brick and mortar dried up, that wasn't a thing really any more.

And group sales of anything other than BookBub and such are also falling out of favor. It's an interesting conundrum...How to get eyes on your books, if they aren't in plain site?

Maybe something like Boogle - (Book Google), a search engine just for scraping for author websites for books for sale. (Or Book Book Go!) (Or BookPile)

Smashwords (One place I check for kindle alternatives), seem to still be in favor and, for example seems to have a large scifi collection, seems as I didn't find a way to get a total count.

I also often go to Thriftbooks for non Amazon controlled hardcovers. Alas most there are used so the authors get no return on my purchase, though I will on occasion check the author's website and if he/she has a tip jar drop a bit in.

I do like the idea of author published, cut out the 33 middle men & all the money's in the writer's hands.

Then their choice if for example, they want to list their work on say TnT Very Best Books To Buy and give TnT a small fraction in return for far, far greater gains. ;-)
